Okay, the original title of this Monday Mixtape Review was going to be ‘ MixTape Monday: An Argument for Spotify’s Daylist AI Feature. But I had started listening to Logic1000’s DJ- Kicks album on iTunes, last Monday, and for some reason I can’t quite recall I hadn’t written a review. In total, the album features 35 Songs and 2 Hours and 7 Minutes in length. The first half of the album is the ‘mixed’ portion - as if to sound as if it were a live recorded mix- the second half serves almost like a playlist.
I’m trying to write this analytically, and speak on the proponents of the album that I like, what I didn’t like, what could work where and how it could work but in fact, the only thing I can think of is this:
“I could sit here and think about all these problems for days.”
‘These’ problems refer to a list of items in the back of my mind which occupy my time as of late, a mixture of personal qualms, friendship qualms, work qualms, business qualms, celebrity qualms. I’m listening to Track 5 - DJ Pleads , ‘ Shush’ which mixes into Saya Gray’s DIPAD33/W.I.D.F.U; by the time Saya’s voice cuts through the ambient drone of Plead’s ‘Shush’; I’m thinking about my call with my sister yesterday, I’m thinking about how that woman never smiles at me, I’m thinking about my savings account, I’m thinking about my mum’s savings account, I’m thinking about what day I should go bouldering - Tuesday or Wednesday?, I’m thinking about a Diploma of Community Services, I’m thinking about Anna , Mikaela and Atis, I’m thinking about my laundry, I’m thinking about that guy, I’m thinking about how much of a fucking dumb bitch she is, I’m thinking about Mr Business, I’m thinking about quitting, I’m thinking about Thailand, I’m thinking about the Northern Territory, I’m thinking about my brother-in-law, I’m thinking about that water bill, I’m thinking about my parking ticket, I’m thinking about that meeting and then that other meeting, I’m thinking about [ redacted ], I’m thinking about dinner, I’m thinking about pilates, I’m thinking about Sonder, I’m thinking about April 10th, I’m thinking about my taxes, I’m thinking about Miscellania, I’m thinking about Dark Mofo, I’m thinking about September and October, I’m thinking about how rude she is, I’m thinking about how everytime she calls me it’s always about her, I’m thinking about the sausages in my fridge, I’m thinking about carpet moths, I’m thinking about Lehan, Izzi, Pearl , Takeo, Aiden, Ria and Nick, I’m thinking about High Note, I’m thinking about Ebay, I’m thinking about AliExpress, I’m thinking about my eyebrows, I’m thinking about my hairline, I’m thinking about Footscray, I’m about Savers, I’m thinking about the Bus, I’m thinking about my shoulder, ribs and chest, I’m thinking about Instagram, I’m thinking about Pearl quitting TikTok , I’m thinking about Lora, I’m thinking about buying an apartment in the East - art deco - I think, I’m thinking about hate and anger, I’m thinking about blocking her, I’m thinking about moving past it, I’m thinking about my therapist who I haven’t responded to, I’m thinking about that other email that I haven’t responded to, I’m thinking about how cold it is in the morning, I’m thinking about the broken speaker, I’m thinking about my dishes in the sink, the hair in the bathroom, the mould on that shelf, the plant that’s dying in my room, the slight stain in my carpet, the mess in my car, the coming weekend with mum, how irrational {redacted] is, when I’ll get paid by [redacted} , the mix I made for Triple J, May 15th , music, Declan, my next article, a new bed, her blotchy angry skin, his self-righteousness, SkyLab Radio, spending time with other friends, telling [redacted] to fuck off.
That’s all for the time being.
By the time we reach Qendresa’s, “LMK”, we’re reaching the end of the album. And the whole time I’ve thought my way through.
But that’s literally just my opinion though.
